We believe that a successful resolution of disputes does not always require the commencement of formal proceedings.

Our early-stage involvement in contentious matters has helped our clients to achieve a landing before further escalation. We have also helped shape the way a dispute evolves in a way that is more advantageous for clients.

Below are highlights of the breadth of experience that our team has built up:

• Acted for a Chinese public listed construction company (which is majority state-owned) in a dispute in relation to a substantial public transportation project the value of which exceeded S$50 million.

• Advised a Singapore company and its director in relation to claims for breach of contract which involved the building and construction of stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line.

​

• Acted for a collective rights organization for music licensing claiming in the High Court for copyright infringement against one of the largest local internet and cable service providers in Singapore. The claim involved refusal from the defendant to take up a licence and involved the novel issue of whether damages could be claimed on the basis of a licence as opposed to infringement for individual works.

• SingNet Pte Ltd v Composers and Authors Society of Singapore Ltd:  Acted for the successful respondent in the Copyright Tribunal matter where one of the largest local internet and cable service providers in Singapore had applied to the Copyright Tribunal for determination of reasonableness of the licence rate under our client’s licensing scheme.  The Copyright Tribunal found in favour of the respondent, determining that the licence rate was reasonable.

• Acted for the Housing & Development Board and resisted a claim for patent infringement. The patent in question was also successfully revoked.

​

• Acted for a senior member of the royal family (from a neighbouring country) in successfully claiming for loss and damage as a result of a lawyer’s misrepresentations which the equivalent of S$3.6 million.

​

• Amutha Valli d/o Krishnan v Titular Superior of the Redemptorist Fathers in Singapore and Others: Successfully represented and defended the Defendants in this novel case which involved claims for assault, battery and false imprisonment arising from what was alleged to be a botched exorcism.

​

• Chan Kum Hong Randy v Public Prosecutor:  Acted in a unique and exceptional case involving delayed prosecution.  On appeal to the High Court, the period of imprisonment was reduced from 60 months to just 2 days.
