Jolene Abelarde

Associate

Jolene is a disputes lawyer with experience acting for multinational corporations, state-owned entities, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals across complex commercial, construction, shareholder, insolvency, and regulatory disputes. Her practice spans commercial litigation, international arbitration, and strategic advisory work involving cross-border matters throughout Singapore, Asia- Pacific, and Russia.

Her experience includes acting in SIAC arbitrations and High Court proceedings. She has advised clients across the telecommunications, shipping, logistics, renewable energy, finance, and oil & gas sectors, including on disputes involving allegations of corruption, delayed infrastructure projects, enforcement and injunctive relief, and complex multi-contract arrangements. Jolene also advises clients on strategic risk management, contentious exits, and urgent interim applications.

Prior to joining the firm, Jolene trained and practised under a leading disputes practitioner at one of Singapore’s Big Four law practices. She graduated from the National University of Singapore and was awarded the NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement. She also holds a certification in Business Mandarin for Legal Professionals from the Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Represented an MCST in a construction dispute against a Chinese developer and main contractor concerning defects exceeding SGD 8 million.

  • Advised and acted for a major Russian oliochemical and logistics operator operator in multiple disputes, including claims against a Singapore-based EPC contractor for unpaid debts, resulting in a settlement of approximately USD 6 million.

  • Represented a leading Southeast Asian clean energy company in resisting the enforcement of a performance bond arising out of a multi-contract turnkey EPC project structure for a USD 40 million solar energy project in Bangladesh, including obtaining urgent injunctive relief in the Singapore High Court.

  • Advised and represented a major telecommunications provider in Myanmar in an SIAC arbitration against a telecommunications MNC, securing a novel preliminary determination against claims exceeding USD 20 million.

  • Represented a high-net-worth individual facing allegations of assisting in money laundering offences under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act.

  • Advised and acted for a multinational investment banking and financial services group in disputes concerning corruption allegations involving its Singapore-based partner in Europe, including responding to injunctions restraining the exercise of its contractual rights.

  • Advised and represented a Singapore landlord with a portfolio of more than 200 properties in relation to tenancy and landlord-tenant disputes.
